Arizona State Football senior quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from Sun Devil Source.

It is not clear whether Daniels returning to ASU is in the cards at this time, as the report from Sun Devil Source mentioned that Daniels has received interest from schools within the Pac-12 Conference and schools outside of it.

Daniels was the Sun Devils’ starter for the past three seasons, where he posted a total of 6,025 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. His best season at the helm seemingly came during his freshman year in 2019, where he threw for 2,943 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions during ASU’s 8-5 campaign.

In 2021, Daniels struggled mightily, throwing for just 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with 2,381 passing yards. ASU struggled as a whole last year, and underwhelmed considerably compared to expectations while also dealing with the NCAA’s investigation into the program’s recruiting practices.

Since the Sun Devils’ 20-13 loss to Wisconsin in the 2021 Las Vegas Bowl in late December, offensive coordinator Zak Hill, defensive/recruiting coordinator Antonio Pierce and three assistants – tight ends coach Adam Breneman, defensive backs coach Chris Hawkins and wide receivers coach Prentice Gill – have all had their ties with the program severed amidst the NCAA’s investigation. ASU has hired new coaches for all positions since, including Glenn Thomas as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Daniels announced on Dec. 2 that he was returning to ASU in 2022. The Sun Devils added redshirt sophomore quarterback Paul Tyson from Alabama in mid-January as a transfer.

Daniels is the third-highest ranked recruit in ASU history according to 24/7 Sports and was the highest-ranked quarterback recruit in program history.

The entrance of Daniels into the transfer portal is seemingly the latest consequence for ASU as a result of the NCAA’s investigation into the program.
