Arizona State Football has added former Florida quarterback Emory Jones via the transfer portal, according to a report from Sun Devil Source.
Jones was the Gators’ starter in 2021 after three years in a wildcat role. Last season, Jones threw for 2,734 yards, 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions with a completion percentage of 64.7%. On the ground, Jones ran for 759 yards and four touchdowns.
Jones’ running abilities earned him numerous opportunities his first three years at Florida. Prior to last year, Jones totaled 514 rushing yards and six touchdowns with the Gators.
The move by ASU is not a surprise considering the departure of former starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, who transferred to LSU on March 6, and head coach Herm Edwards’ public comments about potentially adding a more experienced signal caller to the Sun Devils’ roster via the portal.
Prior to the addition of Jones, ASU possessed zero quarterbacks on its roster that had started a Power-5 game. The front-runners for the Sun Devils’ starting job seemed to be Alabama transfer Paul Tyson and redshirt junior Trenton Bourguet at the beginning of spring practice.
With Jones now in tow, it’d be surprising if ASU held a competition at the position at all.
