ASU Football: Edwards and company land commitment from dual-threat QB Jayden Daniels

In a massive recruiting success, ASU landed the top uncommitted dual-threat quarterback in the nation on Thursday.

Four-star quarterback Jayden Daniels announced that he will sign with Arizona State University come next week.

The ceremony was streamed live on Thursday. Before the announcement, Daniels sat with four baseball caps, each with a different logo. Among the four were ASU, UCLA, Cal and Utah.

Ultimately, the 6-3, 185-pound quarterback stood up and unzipped his jacket, revealing his intent to sign with the Sun Devils and add to an already stacked 2019 quarterback class.

Daniels had 25 total offers, nine being from the Pac-12, but the illustrious list also included offers from Ohio State, Georgia, LSU and Alabama.

Daniels’ talent cannot be understated. During his time at Cajon High School (San Bernardino, Calif.), he threw for a whopping 14,007 yards and adding another 3,645 yards on the ground. He currently holds the California state record for total offense in a single season, passing current Washington quarterback Jake Browning with 6,431 yards.

He started as a freshman for Cajon and started a total of 53 games for the Cowboys.

With the commitment of the four-star quarterback, ASU is now the only school to have three of the top 20 quarterbacks in the 2019 class.

A quarterback competition looms large in Tempe between Daniels and commits Joey Yellen and Ethan Long, but the signing of Daniels is a huge win for the Sun Devils in terms of recruiting and on the field play going forward.

Yellen and Daniels can get an early jump on the battle, as they face off in the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 3.
