ASU Football: ASU vs. NAU Game Thread

Follow along for updates as Arizona State takes on Northern Arizona University. The Sun Devils are set to begin the season against the Lumberjacks at Sun Devil Stadium.

11:24-Game ends with a final score of 44-13 Sun Devils. All five touchdowns from ASU came on the ground from five different players (Wilkins, Richard, Ballage, Harry, and Ralston).

11:18- Freshman quarterback Brady White hands it off to fellow freshman Nick Ralston for a 12 yard rushing touchdown (Gonzalez with the extra point). 44-13 ASU leads with 2:46 left in the game.

11:13- A 45 yard field goal attempt for Zane Gonzalez is good as Arizona State takes a commanding 37-13 lead on Northern Arizona. 4:48 left in the fourth quarter.

11:10- Tim White showing some moves on the punt return. A 43 yard return with 6:19 left in the fourth quarter.

11:02- Another touchdown from Arizona State. This time a 30 yard rush from Kalen Ballage. This is Ballage’s first touchdown of the 2016 season. Two point conversion good (Wilkins to Ballage). 34-13 Sun Devils with 8:10 left in the fourth quarter.

10:56-The Lumberjacks answer back on an 87 yard touchdown pass to Elijah Marks. Griffin Roehler with the extra point. 26-13 Sun Devils lead with 10:31 in the fourth.

10:51- N’Keal Harry gets his first collegiate touchdown on a 34 yard rush. 5 plays for 85 yards. Zane Gonzalez misses the extra point. 10:51 to go with the Sun Devils ahead 26-6.

10:40- Start of the 4th quarter. Lumberjack QB Case Cookus 19-29 for 269 yards.

10:34-Demario Richard gets his first touchdown of the 2016 season on a 2 yard rush. Zane Gonzalez with the extra point. Sun Devils lead the Lumberjacks 20-6 with 0:05 to go in the 3rd quarter.

10:26- Lumberjack safety Kam’ron Johnson called for targeting but officials have overturned it.

10:22-The Sun Devils on their 9th drive of the game. Past three: field goal, fumble, field goal.

10:13- 2 penalties in a row against the Sun Devils. The first a face mask from Tashon Smallwood then a targeting call that ejects Marcus Ball from the game.  

10:08- The Sun Devils answer right back with a field goal of their. 8 plays for 30 yards with a 53 yard (career long) field goal from Zane Gonzalez. 13-6 Sun Devils.

10:00- 10:51 Griffin Roehler makes 23 yard field goal for the Lumberjacks. 9 plays for 69 yards on the drive. 10-6 Sun Devils still leading.

9:58- On 4th and 1 from the 1 yard line, ASU defense able to prevent the touchdown but is called for an offside. Next play, NAU is called for delay of game.

9:52- 2nd half underway as NAU receives the kick. First play Case Cookus completes a 39 yard pass to Emmanuel Butler to the ASU 36 yard line.

9:29- Halftime: ASU leads it 10-3. Manny Wilkins 9-14 for 71 yards and 1 INT. He also leads the Sun Devils with 58 yards rushing.

9:29- Lumberjack receiver Emmanuel Butler catches the ball in mid air as it was deflected off of an ASU defender. Thought he had the touchdown but his foot was out at the ASU 2 yard line.  

9:25- Northern Arizona comes up with a fumble recovery off of a bobbled punt because it was deflected off of an ASU player. Lots of confusion on the field.

9:18- ASU’s 6th drive finishes with a 33 yard field goal by Zane Gonzalez. 10-3 with 1:26 left in the 2nd quarter.

9:16- Cheers of “Manny” fill the stadium.

9:15- Manny Wilkins completes pass to N’Keal Harry for a gain of 20 yards. Harry with a great spin move on the play to pick up the extra yards. A few plays later, Wilkins on the carry with an impressive hurdle move.

9:09- Lumberjack senior Dylan Keegans with a 40 yard punt rolling all the way back to the ASU 6 yard line.

9:04- N’Keal Harry’s first catch as a Sun Devil is a wide sweep for a 2 yard gain.

9:00- Sun Devils on their 5th drive of the game. Previous four in order: TD, INT, PUNT, PUN.

8:53- Wilkins sacked for a loss of 14 yards. Arizona State gets their second penalty of the game for Intentional Grounding for 25 yards.

8:44- The Lumberjacks get their first score at 13:26 in the 2nd Quarter on a field goal from Griffin Roehler. 8 plays for 38 yards.

8:40- End of the first quarter. Sun Devils lead the Lumberjacks 7-0. Wilkins: 2-3 with 1 INT. Case Cookus: 7-11 for 101 yards

8:38– ASU marched down 44 yards on their opening drive with a rushing touchdown by Manny Wilkins. Wilkins also was intercepted by Lumberjack CB Cole Sterns at the ASU 46.
