ASU Football: Arizona State @ Washington Game Thread

9:01- FINAL: The first win against ASU in 10 years, ASU 18 Washington 44. Jake Browning 27-44, 338 YDS, 2 TD, 2 INT. Manny Wilkins 20-32, 227 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT.

8:59- The clock bleeds down to the final two minutes as the Washington Huskies look to head into their final week with a dominant victory and a clear reason why they deserve to be in the College Football Playoff. The Apple Bowl should be an interesting one as Washington State is coming off a loss to Colorado.

8:54- RB Nick Ralston gets his first carry of the night for the Sun Devils. Ends up being tackled for loss of 1 yard.

8:50- TOUCHDOWN: Washington LB Keishawn Bierria takes advantage of the onside kick coverage as he runs it in for a TD. ASU 18 Washington 44.

8:45- Washington DB Brandon Beaver called for pass interference on the long Hail Mary throw from Manny Wilkins. 

8:42- N’Keal Harry makes an impressive catch on a well-thrown ball from Manny Wilkins for 36 yards.

8:41- Bit of a tricky play between N’Keal Harry and Tim White on the kick return but doesn’t result with much as ASU starts at their own 25-yard line.

8:36- TOUCHDOWN: Washington RB Myles Gaskin breaks away and rushes in for the 45-yard TD. ASU 11 Washington 37. 9:33 left in the 4th Quarter. Drive Track: 2 plays, 48 yards, 0:53

8:35- A fake onside kick backfires on the Sun Devils as Washington recovers and starts at the ASU 48-yard line.

8:30- TOUCHDOWN: Jay Jay Wilson leaps up and comes down with the ball for the 18-yard TD pass from Wilkins. 2-point conv. good. 10:27 left in 4th. Drive Track: 8 plays, 65 yards, 2:55

8:29- Jay Jay Wilson called for the chop block which will recall the touchdown from Kalen Ballage. This is the second touchdown recalled due to penalties.

8:27- Timeout taken by the Sun Devils as they have 3rd and goal from the Washington 3-yard line.

8:25- Freshman WR N’Keal Harry gets three straight receptions for 53 yards. Head coach Todd Graham praised Harry a lot this week leading up to the Washington game. Kalen Ballage comes up limping on the play and heads to the sideline.

8:22- Turnover on downs for the Huskies on the incompletion. Arizona State starts their 12th drive at their own 35-yard line.

8:18-Washington calls their first timeout of the 4th quarter to talk things over.

8:12- End of 3rd Quarter: ASU 3 Washington 30. ASU has 84 total yards while Washington has 448 (338 passing).

8:10- Arizona State DB Gump Hayes called for pass interference.

8:05- FIELD GOAL: ASU kicker Zane Gonzalez scores the first points for the Sun Devils with a 50-yard kick. ASU 3 Washington 30. 2:17 in the 3rd quarter. Drive Track: 7 plays, 43 yards, 3:07

8:03- QB Manny Wilkins is sacked for the fifth time tonight by Elijah Qualls and then again on the next play from Washington’s Tevis Bartlett. 

8:02- After the catch, WR Fredrick Gammage limped off the field to the sidelines. Looked like a big hit to the side and hip areas.

7:58- FIELD GOAL: Cameron Van Winkle does it again with a 24-yard field goal on a scoreless ASU team. ASU 0 Washington 30. 5:34 left in 3rd Quarter. Drive Track: 9 plays, 60 yards, 2:27

7:55- QB Jake Browning sprints for 19 yards to pick up the first down. Arizona State called for a substitution violation penalty as Koron Crump tried to get off the field.

7:51- Last five drives for Washington: TD, PUNT, TD, TD, FG. Last five drives for ASU: INT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT.

7:50- Another punt from the Sun Devils as senior Matt Haack boots this one 43 yards. Washington starts their next drive at their own 33-yard line.

7:47- Arizona State starts their 10th drive from their own 16-yard line. So far, ASU has not scored a point in this game and has not even touched the red zone yet.

7:44- FIELD GOAL: Washington kicker Cameron Van Winkle boots one through from 22 yards out. ASU 0 Washington 27. Drive Track: 14 plays, 70 yards, 5:11

7:41- Great interpretation from Kareem Orr on the shuffle pass. Leaping effort from him to tip the pass out of the end zone.

7:40- Penalty called on the Sun Devils on JoJo Wicker for offsides. 2nd and Goal for Washington from the 7-yard line.

7:34- Washington breaking down the Sun Devil defense by running a fast-paced hurry up offense. Seems to be working as Jake Browning has executed 10 plays for 67 yards.

7:31- Second half underway as Washington receives the kick and starts the drive from their own 36-yard line.

7:09- Halftime: At the end of the first half, Arizona State trails Washington 24-0. Wilkins 5-10, 32 YDS, 1 INT. Browning 14-23, 236 YDS, 2 TD’s.

7:06- TOUCHDOWN: Washington junior Lavon Coleman pushes through for the 1-yard TD. ASU 0 Washington 24. :16 left in the half.

7:04- Washington WR Dante Pettis has been very impressive through this half. 5 catches for 90 yards and 1 touchdown.

7:00- On the play, redshirt freshman OL Zach Robertson down on the play but is able to walk off the field on his own power. Looked like a big pop on the California native.

6:55- TOUCHDOWN: Washington WR Dante Pettis is wide open downfield for the 45-yard TD pass to put the Huskies ahead by 17. ASU 0 Washington 17. 4:08 remaining in the second quarter. Drive Track: 4 plays, 84 yards, 1:58

6:54- Big run from Washington RB Myles Gaskin as he rushes for 24 yards. Gaskin has 6 carries for 37 yards so far.

6:51- 3rd down has been a problem for both teams tonight as Washington is 1-6 on 3rd down conversions.

6:49- Arizona State now 1 for 7 on 3rd down conversions tonight.

6:45- Washington also taking the approach that Washington State did against ASU with purple sheets propped up  to block any sign stealing.

6:40- Another pass zipped to Harry but he can’t come up with it. ASU to punt for the fourth time tonight.

6:37- Manny Wilkins in the game: 4-7, 31 YDS and 1 INT. Big pass to N’Keal Harry for 24 yards as Harry dove for the pigskin, catching it with his fingers.

6:30- TOUCHDOWN: Washington WR Chico McClatcher catches the screen pass and dashes for the 75-yard TD. Washington 10 ASU 0 with 13:08 in the 2nd Quarter. Drive Track: 2 plays, 80 YDS, :47.

6:26- INT: Washington answers back with an impressive one-handed interception from DB Kevin King in the end zone. King was on ASU WR N’Keal Harry and reached up with one hand to come down with it.

6:23- INT: From 62 yards out, Koron Crump with the interception and touchdown but an illegal block in the back by Maurice Chandler prevents the score. ASU takes over on offense at the Washington 13-yard line.

6:19- End of 1st Quarter: ASU 0 Washington 3. Jake Browning has been disrupted early 4-11, 32 YDS and 1 INT.

6:18- False start called on Washington TE Will Dissly.

6:16- ASU has to punt again as Manny Wilkins was sacked for the third time tonight by sophomore LB Tevis Bartlett. 

6:14- Kalen Ballage leaps over a Washington defender but only gains two yards. A.J. McCollum called for a late hit so it will be 3rd and 21.

6:10- INTERCEPTION: Arizona State DB Kareem Orr takes advantage of the tipped pass and gets his first interception of the year. Sun Devils take over on offense at their own 24-yard line.

6:09- ASU redshirt sophomore Armand Perry collects a huge tackle for loss on Washington RB Myles Gaskin. Perry was a game-time decision for the day as he was battling a foot injury.

6:05- Arizona State has to punt on their second drive. Defense from the Huskies dropped Ballage for a TFL and another sack on Wilkins. Both tackles made by Washington DB Budda Baker. Baker now has three tackles (2 of them solo) and 1.5 sacks.

5:59- Junior RB Kalen Ballage returns this kick to the ASU 19-yard line. Demario Richard has seen a majority of the snaps so far after sitting out in their game vs. Oregon and was limited to six carries vs. Utah last week.

5:56- FIELD GOAL: Washington gets on the board first with a field goal from Cameron Van Winkle. 3-0 Washington with 6:49 in the first quarter. Drive Track: 4 plays, -2 yards, 1:25

5:55- Senior DL Ami Latu gets his first sack of the game on Browning. Next play, Tashon Smallwood tips Browning’s pass to force 4th down.

5:52-FUMBLE- On the punt, Tim White appeared to have possession of the ball at first but then sprawled out before he went down. Washington will start with 1st and 10 at the Arizona State 11-yard line.

5:51- Arizona State’s blitz seems to be disrupting Browning early as he threw three incompletions on the opening drive. Washington to punt.

5:47- Starting QB for the Huskies is sophomore Jake Browning. In his last appearance, Browning was 17-36 with two interceptions, 259 yards and one touchdown.

5:45- Wilkins sacked for the first time tonight by Huskies’ junior DB Budda Baker. Washington in a man-to-man defense but the pocket just broke around him. Poor blocking from the O-line and backfield. ASU has to punt on their first drive as Washington starts from their own 14-yard line.

5:40- Starting QB for the Sun Devils is redshirt sophomore Manny Wilkins. Last week vs. Utah, Wilkins threw for 309 yards 0n 19 completions with one touchdown.

5:39- Arizona State to receive the opening kickoff. Senior wide receiver Tim White back deep for the Sun Devils. Touchback with the kneel from White.

5:34- Both teams take the field as this is Washington’s senior night. The Huskies run out of their tunnel with purple smoke engulfing the players.

5:15- 20 minutes away from kickoff from Husky Stadium in Seattle, WA. Washington is pushing for a bid in the college football playoff with a 9-1 record while Arizona State pushes for bowl eligibility with their 5-5 overall record. Both teams are coming off losses to Pac-12 opponents. Washington’s loss came at the hands of USC 26-13 while ASU lost to Utah 49-26 for their fourth straight.
