After losing five out of its last six contests, Arizona State earned its second Pac-12 win of the season in a 10-1 win over Washington State.
Seth Martinez toed the rubber for all nine innings, giving up just five hits and a single run to go with five strikeouts.
Martinez’s complete game was in vast contrast to the Sun Devils’ previous game against Utah where Tracy Smith deployed 10 pitchers.
It was the second complete game of the season for Arizona State, the first being Ryan Hingst’s no-hitter last weekend.
David Greer scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the first inning, then Andrew Shaps scored off of Grant Canning’s sacrifice fly in the second inning.
After the first two innings, the Sun Devils didn’t score again until the sixth inning.
However, that’s all the support Martinez needed.
Colby Woodmansee got the scoring started in the sixth after he drove in Andrew Snow. Brian Serven followed it up with an RBI of his own after driving in David Greer.
Woodmansee went 3-5 on the night.
The Devils added five insurance runs in the ninth, leading to win number 15 on the season.
Martinez went for 102 pitches, 71 of which were strikes.
The series will pick up tomorrow in Pullman at 7:00 p.m., where the Sun Devils will have an opportunity to win their first conference series of the season.
