Arizona State bested Xavier 8-2 in the second game of Saturday’s double-header, improving to 3-0 on the young season.
To this point, it’s been an all-around series for Arizona State, with both the pitching and the offense coming to life.
In the three games, the Devils have posted 15 runs, while holding the Musketeers to just five.
Player of the Game: Andrew Shaps
Along with his defensive showing in center field, Shaps had a game to remember at the plate going 3-4 with two runs, an RBI and a triple. In three games, Shaps has posted five hits and three RBI.
Unsung Hero: Colby Woodmansee
Woodmansee finished with one hit and two RBI’s. His contributions were subtle, but were instrumental in the win.
You knew it was over when..
The Sun Devils posted three runs in the third inning. Woodmansee, Andrew Snow and David Greer all drove in runs to make it a four-run game.
Stat of the Night:
Eli Lingos got the nod in the second game and performed respectably, the Sophomore went 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits and two runs. He also tallied five strikeouts and one walk. While the hits were rather high, Lingos was able to work his way out of those jams and prevent Xavier from stringing anything together.
What’s next?
Arizona State will finish the series Sunday at 12 p.m. MT. before taking on Nevada in a mid-week game on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
