Territorial Cup tussle in Tucson

The Territorial Cup continues this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as the Arizona State Sun Devils (21-16) travel to Tucson to take on the rival Arizona Wildcats (17-23). The Wildcats were just swept by USC, while ASU is coming off a series loss to Stanford.

Friday, 7 p.m.

Projected Starters: LHP Brett Lilek (3-2, 1.98 ERA) vs. RHP James Farris (4-5, 4.32 ERA)

Brett Lilek continued his dominant streak against Stanford last weekend, never allowing a runner to move past second against the Cardinal. The southpaw sophomore has thrown 54 2/3 innings, striking out a team-high 52 while walking 24, holding opponents to a .182 batting average while lowering his ERA to 1.98.

James Farris is the only senior starter for Arizona. The right-hander has thrown three complete games for a total of 76 2/3 innings, where he’s struck out a team-high 71 and walked only nine for a 4.32 ERA.

Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Projected Starters: LHP Ryan Kellogg (5-2, 3.61 ERA) v RHP Cody Hamlin (5-2, 2.32 ERA)

Ryan Kellogg has allowed one run in his previous 15 innings and has not walked a batter in 13 1/3 innings. The Canadian sophomore has tossed a team-high 62 1/3 innings, accumulating 38 strikeouts and walking only 13 on his way to a 3.61 ERA.

Cody Hamlin, the right-handed redshirt sophomore, has pitched a team-high 77 2/3 innings already for the Wildcats this season. Hamlin has struck out 39 and walked 11 while compiling his 2.32 ERA.

Sunday, 4:30 p.m.

Projected Starters: RHP Darrin Gillies (1-3, 3.96 ERA) v RHP Tyger Talley (1-1, 4.38 ERA)

Darrin Gillies has held opposing batters to a .122 batting average in his last 15 innings. The right-handed junior has the only complete game of the Sun Devil pitching staff, throwing a total of 52 1/3 innings while striking out 39 and walking 18 for a 3.96 ERA.

Tyger Talley, a right-handed sophomore, received no run support in his last 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball. Talley has thrown 39 innings, striking out 14 while walking 16 for his ERA of 4.38.

Bats to Watch:

For ASU, Nate Causey leads the way with a .353 batting average and 42 hits. Dalton DiNatale has a team-high 29 RBIs, with RJ Ybarra right behind him with 28. Trever Allen’s three home runs are still team-leading for the Sun Devils, who are batting .285 as a team.

The Wildcats are lead by Scott Kingery’s .379 batting average. Zach Gibbons and Trent Gilbert are tied with a team-high 55 hits, and Gilbert is tied with Bobby Dalbec with a team-leading two home runs. Kevin Newman leads Arizona with 31 RBIs. The Wildats are batting .287 as a team.
