Arizona State softball cruises to six victories in season-opening tournament

The Arizona State softball team went 6-0 in the season-opening Kajikawa Classic tournament over the weekend. Dallas Escobedo and Mackenzie Popescue each picked up three victories while shortstop Cheyenne Coyle paced the Sun Devils at the plate with three home runs.

The Sun Devils cruised to four mercy-rule victories in their six contests and earned shutouts in each of the two games that went a full seven innings.

Cronkite Sports softball reporter Joey Hardy had the chance to catch up with Escobedo, Coyle and Sun Devil head coach Craig Nicholson and hear their thoughts on the team’s success this weekend.
