The Sun Devil soccer team had their six-game home winning streak snapped as they fell to Boise State University 2-0.
Both teams were neck and neck for the majority of the game, however, the Broncos were able to find the back of the net two times in the final 12 minutes of the game.
“I didn’t think the energy level was good enough across the board,” head coach Kevin Boyd said. “Not enough pressure on the ball.”
Early in the first half, the Sun Devils thought they had a penalty as forward Devin Marshall was taken down in the penalty box in the 7th minute. But, the refs did not call it.
Neither team was able to convert on their chances in the first half, leaving the game scoreless at the half.
In the 74th minute, Marshall nearly headed the ball into the net, but Boise State was able to stop it in the goal line. Five minutes later, the Broncos would have their chance.
Forward Shannon Schueren received a cross and sent it home past Sun Devil goal keeper Chandler Morris, to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
In the 89th minute, Sun Devil midfielder Holland Crook kicked a free kick for ASU and sent it straight at the wall. It bounced back to her, but she hit the crossbar with the second attempt.
With a second left to play, Brooke Heidemann sealed the victory with a high shot that found the back of the net.
The Sun Devils will kick off conference play on Sunday Sept. 29 as they host USC.
