The Walter Cronkite Sports Network is a student-run organization stationed out of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Phoenix, AZ, as a part of Arizona State University. The content on this site is provided exclusively by student sports journalists. As an organization, WCSN strives for excellence in all of its ventures.
Sports currently being covered by WCSN include (in order of season):
WCSN was originally founded as a hockey broadcast organization in 2008, providing live broadcasts of ASU men’s hockey. From there, its hockey broadcasting expanded to the nearby Arizona Redhawks, while still calling ASU games. In the fall of 2012, cronkitesports.com launched, leading to a club-wide expansion and written coverage for all of ASU’s Division I sports.
Since then, WCSN has become the leading destination for student-run coverage of ASU athletics. In the summer of 2013, the Pac-12 Network reached an agreement with WCSN, ensuring digital webcasts of six ASU sports would be staffed with the talent of the organization’s members.
In the fall 2014, WCSN launched Cronkite Sports Live—a live-streamed YouTube sports show that airs weekly. Cronkite Sports continues to add to its coverage scope and continues to expand the ways in which its stories are told.
The current layout and design of CronkiteSports.com was launched in the summer of 2016.
